NASHVILLE, TN – (Aug. 30, 2006) – Carrie Underwood woke up early in Colorado Springs, Colorado this morning, where she’ll perform in nearby Pueblo tonight, to learn she received 4 nominations for the Country Music Association Awards. Her categories include: Female Vocalist, Single of The Year (“Jesus, Take The Wheel”), Music Video of The Year (“Jesus, Take The Wheel”) and Horizon Award. Underwood’s debut country single, “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” which spent 6 weeks at #1, also receives a nomination in the Song of The Year category- award will go to publishers and songwriters (Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson and Brett James). Her four nominations make Underwood the most nominated female.

“This is my first time to be nominated for the CMA Awards, so to be recognized for four is a big surprise and an amazing honor!” says Underwood. “I’m extremely excited and can't wait until November!”

Underwood made her debut into country music in 2005 during the CMA Music Festival and was asked to perform on the CMA Awards live from Madison Square Garden on Nov. 15, 2005, the same day her debut album SOME HEARTS was released.

Since her album’s release, Underwood has become one of the most dynamic success stories to emerge out of Nashville. Her 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville album, SOME HEARTS, is now triple Platinum for sales over 3,000,000 units and has become the fastest such certification for a female country debut in RIAA history and Nielsen SoundScan’s fastest-selling debut country album by a female vocalist. Underwood placed both her first two country singles at #1- “Jesus, Take The Wheel” (#1 for six weeks) and “Don’t Forget To Remember Me.” Also among her accolades are 2 ACM Awards for Single Record of the Year for “Jesus, Take The Wheel” and Top New Female Vocalist, 3 Billboard Music Awards, 2 CMT Music Awards, a Music Row Critics Choice Award, a NARM Award as Country Breakout Artist, a Gospel Music Association Award and a Teen Choice Award.

The 40th Annual CMA Awards can be seen live from Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville on November 6 on the ABC Television Network.
